Do you know that overthinking is keeping people back from living their lives they want to? Most of them are unaware of it. And why? Because they think too much.
They analyze every single problem, even the smallest one and they tend to make it even bigger than it actually is. Usually overthinking is linked with a lack of ability to make decisions by questioning every single aspect to be sure that you are making the right decision or choice.
We all are overthinking aspects of life sometimes : regrets, decisions, our self-worth and we feel like we are stuck somewhere in the middle.
Of course that thinking over some things is beneficial, but when it goes out of proportion – it becomes a problem. It can be really exhausting and you have to find a way how to get out of it.
Don’t Question So Much – Take Action
If you are thoroughly questioning yourself over doing something – don’t think 2 days, take an immediate action. It surely doesn’t mean you should jump right over, but take little time to think it over before final decision comes along.
Let say you want to go on a vacation and you are trying to find the best possible solution: travel, accommodation, food, luggage etc. While searching, you will find what serves your best interest. Don’t overdo researching, because you will find yourself overwhelmed by it and not being able to make final decision.
Why So Many Worries For The Future?
If you end up thinking all the time about your future, your (by default) negative mind, will create the worst possible scenarios there are.
Shift your thoughts. If you write a book-continue. If you are a painter-proceed with expanding your creativity through your hands, do some crafting or gardening, get outside… get the picture?
Switch to other thoughts and activities that will detour your mind and actions. It is the best way to avoid overthinking about things that are only in your imagination and maybe they won’t ever come true (speaking of negative patterns here).
Don’t get all upset over your new projects and stop jiggling your mind over your fear of failure. Just start up and see how it goes. Solve problems and take chances along the way.
Set Short Time For Decision Making
If you don’t set a short time for your decision-making process, you’ll end up running around thoughts in your head – eternally.
- Learn to become a short-term decision maker and train your mind to extract fast what is best for you from any occasion or situation occurred
- Learn to choose fast but not foolish
- Set deadlines in your daily life
- For small decisions give yourself 30 sec
- For larger decisions give yourself 30-45 min
You Can’t Control Everything
Even if you want to make a decision what’s best for you, you can’t possibly control and predict situations that might occur. And if you want to cover every aspect and lower the risk of making mistakes, you’ll just end up looking like a fool.
It is good for you to get out from your comfort zone and dive into the unknown. It is much challenging and it might lighten your adventure spirit a bit.
Don’t be afraid. Each one of us is making mistakes and no one is a Saint. Neither are you. You can’t predict every possible scenario there is.
If you still overthink, at least stick to positive scenarios outcome.
Live In Present Moment
When you overthink, you are always in the future. It is not a way to live thinking of events that haven’t occur, nor they ever will.
Live today. Live at present time. Past is gone, future hasn’t yet come, and present time is the only place where you create future and where you should stick to. I bet you’ve read this thousands of times, but it certainly is true.

- observe thoughts, stop them and reconnect in present time
Don’t Hang Around With Over-thinkers
Being social with many people, plays a big role in your life. Each person have a different perspective of life, and being around people might get you influenced accidentally. Choose people who have more positive aspects of life and are not over-thinkers like yourself.
If you choose to stick with people with whom you have similarities with (especially at overthinking), you will find yourself in enchanted circle which will be hard to get out.
