Morning Shower Or Night Bath-What Science Says?
Which type of showering person are you? Morning one, or a night one? Well, this is what science has to say which hygiene habit is a better one, or at least should be.
Some people prefer to have a long and indulging hot bath before going to bed, and some are always in a hurry and do it quickly by showering in the morning.
Both have pros, and there is a debate going on for a long time to define which one is better for us.
Well…
In a study conducted, there were 3 groups of women who participated in it. The first one took a warm bath before going to bed. The second one did a hot foot bath before bed and the third one did nothing.
It turned out that women in the first two groups fell sleep faster and had better quality sleep than the third one.
Conclusion: taking a bath before sleep is relaxing us and cooling us down preparing the body for night rest. Of course it doesn’t mean that showering in the morning isn’t good, but you avoid the whole process of relaxation.
Showering At Specific Time Of The Day
Many people want just to rinse off, other than laying for hours in a bath tub, but is it better? It depends from the type of personality you have, and many other factors that influence that decision.
Morning Shower Person
If you are creative person
…taking a shower may act as a process of meditation. How?
Well, while doing it, you relax and enter alpha brain wave state which is perfect environment for new ideas to emerge.
The combination of warm water and some quiet time, will energize you and lead you toward more insightful thinking.
Shower meditation is something people intentionally do for relaxation and solving problems purposes. If you want to give your brain a kick start and more creative boost, then – morning shower is the thing for you.
If you have skin problems
…such as excessive skin oil, then it is better to do your ritual in the morning, not waiting for the evening. Why? Because during sleep, skin oils built up and you wake up feeling filthy.
If this is the case, then switch the routine – do shower or bath tub in the morning.
If you have trouble to wake up
…in the morning, then a quick shower might help you “sober” from sleeping. It will make you more alert and force you to stay alert during the day.
It will freshen up your minds quickly.
If you workout in the morning
…definitely you will need a morning shower. It wouldn’t make any sense to shower, go to bed and jump to workout in the morning.
Evening Shower Person
If you have trouble falling asleep
…then you should practice warm bath before going to bed, as it relaxes all your muscles, and not to mention it “melts” your brain.
Have you ever noticed that after you get out of shower or a bath tub, cooling your body induct better sleep?
If you have wondered why are you sleepy after your home water therapy – this is your answer.
According to the National Center for Biotechnology Information, the bodily temperature drop that results after taking a warm shower, mimics the body’s natural thermal regulation in regard to sleep. See?
While showering, be aware not to overheat the body, because it can have effect of keeping you awake for a prolonged period of time.
If you have a dry skin
…showering or bathing at night is better, since natural oils produced during the night will keep your skin balance perfectly.
Don’t steam up so vigorously if you have sensitive skin. You may cause an un-intentional damage to it.
If You have all day long “dirty” job to do
… of course you must clean yourself before going to bed. You don’t want to bring all that sweat and dirt into your clean bed sheets.
If you have a job that is at the open, all that dirt might clog your pores and if you don’t take it off, you might get pimples on some body parts. Do you want that to happen? No.
Hygiene at first!
Bottom Line
We have elaborated here how warm water acts upon us (consulting even science about it) whether it is in the morning or at night.
Of course if you want to sleep better, showering or taking a bath at night is always the best, but everybody has its own routines to follow.
As you can see, even the science can’t answer accurately when you should shower. At last, you have to find the routine that works best for you and your body’s natural rhythms.
And the truth is, how and when you will deal with the amount of dirt and grime you accumulate in a given day, is always a matter of personal choice.
Science can reveal why, and you need to see if it really works!
