Have you ever found yourself in a position of self-neglection over too much work – not to say: overworking? I bet you did, and you are not the only one.
Many sacrifice their personal life over work, knowing they might suffer consequences later on – in personal life of course.
Even though today modern living has given us all hi-tech gadgets to perform work much faster, we, somehow end up chasing time to finish all the work given.
Staying up all night doing work from your home, or in office, is a pure sign that you have entered the phase called overworking.
Not it is only exhausting, but you will feel the consequences real soon, either upon your health or upon your personal (family) life.
Why Overworking Has An Overall Bad Reputation?
One main thing here is because it provides you with high level of stress, and low level of skills how to manage it. Since you are always chasing time to finish your work done by tearing you apart between personal and professional life, somewhere in between you’ll just “collapse”.
How it will affect your life?
1.You’ll Get Poor Or No Sleep At All
Researches has shown that overworking will eventually mess your good sleeping patterns and you’ll start to suffer from insomnia. Siting all day in front of computer and acting like a robot finishing tasks one by one – will soon burn you off.
If you risk to become a chronic non-sleeper you put yourself at even higher risk of getting a wide variety of diseases such as heart disease, obesity, stroke or even diabetes.
Don’t enter that sleepless phase that might destroy you in so many ways.
2.You’ll Become A Fun Of Bad Health Choices
If you are in constant chase with time and under high tense stress levels while at work, surely you don’t have the conscious level of seeing what you digest.
Coffee will become your best friend and not to mention junk food served all around you, and since you will rely only on those health resources – you will put yourself in a danger…
Of, course, while on pause you can get a descent meal, but what will you choose? A healthy one or the one that will fill you up with too much calories to endure you humongous job tasks given.
To tell you the truth, it ain’t worth-ed sacrificing your health for no job in the world. There is always another one to be found which will not jeopardize your health or your quality of life.
You have only one life to live and you should appreciate it highly!
3.Overworking Can Get You A Heart Disease
Sad, but true. There is a study that has shown that people who work for 3 or more hours longer than usual, got themselves to a higher risk of developing heart disease issues like heart attacks or angina pectoris.
Would you like to settle in this group? I suppose NOT.Therefore, you should seriously reconsider what are you doing to yourself if you want live much longer.
4.You May Become An Alcoholic
Struggling between work and personal life can often lead people to a drinking habits as they are seeking for a way out. Unfortunately, heavy drinking is not a way out.
It will bury you in problems even more. Would you like that to happen? I don’t think so. You simply must find a balance and manage it accordingly. Anger and frustration won’t do.
No drink will help you to solve any problems and you know…heavy drinking is a matter of weakness by not knowing how to deal with the reality.
It is better to stay sober and solve matters, than to avoid them by ruining your health.
5.You May Develop Diabetes Type 2
As you are working all the time, not having any physical movements whatsoever, you put yourself to a high risk of developing diabetes type 2.
Bad healthy choices combined with sitting lifestyle are best combo if you want to make a permanent damage to your health.
Don’t do that. Find time to take a pause and simply make brisk walks while you are on a lunch break.
Move around more often and find time for some physical activity. It will not only freshen up your brain, but your body as well, so you can have fresher approach to your tasks and finish them earlier than usual.
6.Overworking Can Lead To A Bad Business Output
I have never seen a person who is overworking all the time and being happy. When unhappy at work, and you know you must have an income to provide, it puts you to an additional stress levels, making you not loving what you do and not paying enough attention of how you do it.
In such cases, you’ll built a reputation of a bad worker which often leads to a possible dismissal. Divide your work to groups and prioritize. You will still finish your work by not being so pushy to yourself.
You will manage it after all. Prioritizing your work will make you some space to breathe.
7. Family Life Will Suffer
Of course you want to make a living for your family but at what cost? Your health? Think it over. If you fail to have more quality time with your family, it will reflect not only to your children, but your marriage too. I have seen so many people doing it and not being aware of it until they hit the wall.
Yes, it was a wake up call to reconsider everything – even work. Sacrificing your family over work is not so smart thing to do. After all, when you’ll be gone, your family will miss you, but your boss will replace you easily.
Don’t make your family miss you!
Reasons For Working Long Hours
Most of the common reasons for working long hours are:
- job requirements
- greater income
- pressure of your workplace
- reward expectations
Different people have different reasons. What are yours?
At The End…Who’s To Blame?
Your manager or yourself? There are managers who expect some employees to be available 24/7,which is impossible and highly irrational to expect such a thing.
But, if it is your personal choice – why you do it? To gain respect, reward, promotion or what else?
Are you proving something to yourself or others? Your ambitions maybe? Don’t let these things ruin your life ’cause you only have to prove that you are a good for yourself, family and friends.
