Animals In General
I love animals. I simply adore them, whether it is a cat, a dog, a horse, you name it. Their existence makes our lives more meaningful and fulfilling (at least it is a case with me).
And you know what?
I treat them as they are human beings and not just animals, because when you analyze them, you’ll see that they are not much different then us – they are made from flesh and blood, with tons of emotions like ours.
Anger, love, envy…
It’s funny, but the more you analyze them-the more close you’ll feel the connection.
Still, whatever great love you have for pets, you have to be aware about all the hidden health “dangers” lurking.
Your Cat and Your Bed
You might have great pleasure hugging your cat in your bed, but, there are some issues to be considered.
Animals, just like us, snore sometimes(heavily), and it may cause sleep disruption. For one night you can stand it, but for more… you will get no quality sleep whatsoever.
You may even wake up in the middle of the night because your cat lies all over your head, pushing you out of the cushion.
And they toss and turn a lot.
There is a study that showed that more than 20 % of patients who sleep with their pets, have disturbed sleep. So, if you want to have a goodnight sleep – avoid sleeping with your cat.
Litter Box Debris
As your cat is using the litter box, debris stay attached to their paws, spreading around bacteria all over your home. As there is no full proof way to be bacteria free, at least you can create a pet-free zone.
Small actions for bigger health protection!
If You Are An Allergy Sufferer…
This could be a major problem if you have allergy issues. Probably, you’ll have to clean more often using HEPA filters, or, you simply close your bedroom door.
If you suffer from severe allergic reaction to cats and dogs, then maybe you should consider removing them from your home.
Sadly, but true. You can offer them for adoption to someone who doesn’t have this health problem.
Don’t Mix Cats And Babies
As cats like to spend time in baby’s cradles, you should separate your love for cats and your baby, for the sake of the child.
As baby have sudden moves, it can frighten the cat and the baby can get scratched. Take prevention measures and secure your child safety.
There are situations where a cat went to a baby cradle and un-intentionally smother the kid.
Protect your baby!
If You Want To Change Kitty’s Sleeping Bed Habit…
At some point, if you decide to take health measures and avoid letting your cat to sleep with you, be aware that changing their sleeping pattern, will make your furry friend all nervous and anxious about losing its territory, and eventually you might end scratched – and your furniture too.
It is a cat payback time…a little destructive behavior.
What you should do to avoid these situations?
You can by a new toy to distract their attention to your bed or sofa, and all of that to de-focus them from yourself as a target.
You already know that cats are moving everywhere, even in dumpsters, and if you don’t know their way of movement while outside, you impose yourself and your home as a playground of parasites and fungal infections.
Cats can harbor all of these while playing outside and you never know when they will transfer them to you, especially if you sleep with them in your bed.
Some parasites will make you itchy(fleas), same as dog will give you, and all of this can make your life quite miserable.
This is not the worst thing you can get.
Bottom line: Treat your pet with good vet care, giving everything it is needed to protect them and yourself from illness.
You Can Get Bacterial Infection
Sleeping with cats might expose you to some secretions and excretions coming from them. For you maybe it is not so much of a problem, since you are young and have a good immune system, but for children and elder people it could be a real problem.
In some way, they can get scratched by the cat and develop cat-scratch fever, which is a bacterial infection that can be fatal for those with weak immune system.
It can cause swelling of the lymph nodes, fever, fatigue, muscle soreness and other symptoms.
This disease usually doesn’t have long-term health consequences, but it can stay in the body for several months after the initial infection.
Another bacterial infection you might catch from cats is salmonellosis. As they catch birds and usually eat them, they might get contaminated from eating the animal.
Humans can become infected through a contact with a sick cat’s feces, causing diarrhea and fever symptoms and even stomach pain.
You can always have pets if you are not allergic to their fur, but you must keep their health in good condition if you both want to be happy, healthy and cuddling…
