What Is An Introvert?
Being an introvert is characterized by having a focus on internal feelings rather than on external sources of stimulation.
You may define it as a person who is avoiding socializing, it is reserved and would rather stay home and read, rather than go to a party and have fun.
But, there are many of them that are enjoying to socialize. You might be surprised how many “social birds” are quite introverts.
Other characteristics applied to introverts are:
- they are highly sensitive persons
- they avoid long phone talks
- they are spiritual
- they are over thinkers
- they write better than speak
We have done a little research and we found 9 main characteristics that may define you as an introvert.
1.Too Many People Drain Your Energy
Have you ever felt exhausted by being around a lot of people? And do you by any chance interacting with too many people lower your energy levels? Do you often need a retreat and solitude to put yourself back together being only by yourself? If you answer is yes, then…probably you are one. An introvert.
Introverts usually are drained by lot of socializing, while extroverts charge their batteries when they are playing social butterflies. This certainly doesn’t mean that introverts avoid social events. They just don’t like them as much.
2.You Are Perfectly Fine Being By Yourself
As being an introvert, your idea of a having a good time is a quiet afternoon /or evening, to enjoy your hobbies and other interests.
You like a peaceful walk in nature, reading a good book or watching a good movie, and these are your ways that make you feel fully recharged and energized.
This doesn’t mean you want to be alone all the time. This is just your way of recharging. Being alone for a few hours I must say, isn’t such a bad idea. Even if you are not an introvert by definition, it really recharges you while enjoying the silence, calming your thoughts and emptying your mind. It is a good thing to do!
3.You Have Few Close Friends
Introverts usually have few close friends they stick to and are close to. Instead of having a large line of people they know, they prefer to have deep, long-lasting relationships related to a great deal of closeness and intimacy.
If your social circle is small and you let only few people in your life to enter and to be close to you – yes, you might be an introvert.
4.You Are Quiet Person
Introverts are usually described as quiet persons who don’t speak much which defines them as shy persons. Indeed, some of them are shy, but others prefer not waste their words, time and energy on meaningless chit-chat. They don’t speak much, but when they do – their words tend to be powerful and with deep meaning.
They don’t want to waste any words over nothing and they carefully choose and use them.
5.Over-stimulation Leads You To a Distraction
When introverts spend time in hectic activities, they usually end up overwhelmed and without any focus. Extroverts are quite opposite, they tend to thrive in such hectic situations where is abundance of activity. The first ones end up drained, and the second ones blossom in such environment.
If you are feeling overwhelmed in this kind of social situations, most probably you tend to be an introvert.
6.Your Best Thinking Is When You Are By Yourself
Your creativity thrive when you are by yourself. The peace and quiet you seek are pushing you towards best results in everything you do. Having an opportunity to quietly reflect on a problem, usually leads towards best results. It is the way how you are functioning at your best.
7.You Are No Hand Raising Type
Have you noticed that since early childhood you were the last one who would raise a hand on question asked? Well, if you have stay that way, you are defined as a part of introverts group.
It doesn’t mean you know less than others – you just don’t feel a particular need to be in that spotlight. You don’t like spotlights. You are a “back office type” who leave others to lead and you follow but doing your own thing.
8.You Don’t Like Participation In Public Speech
When it comes to a public speech – you will avoid it like hell. You don’t want to publicly express your opinions and you rather share them behind the scene.
You are not comfortable being in “first row”, and you tend of withdrawing yourself from such situations as soon as possible.
9.You Avoid Tense Situations
You always avoid tense situations because you don’t like the energy released. You always try to stay away from them as much as possible.
Arguments are just not your thing. You are a believer of calm, grown up and peaceful conversation as a way of problem solving.
You don’t like “hot headed people” and you avoid them if any occur.
Your Advantage Of Being An Introvert
Being an introvert has many advantages. Enjoying your own company, being creative as much and avoiding small talk energy drainers – makes you a perfectly normal and sane person.
After all it isn’t so bad to be one… quiet people have the loudest minds…
