Hair Color Maintenance
To tell you the truth, thank God hair color exists, otherwise we would have been all gray and old looking. Aging is perfectly natural, but when it comes, at least we can welcome it looking sharp.
Today, everybody uses hair colors, both men and women as beauty has been trend from the beginning of civilization.
From ancient times until today, hair coloring was developing its chemistry and it is still improving. Since we all color our hair, we all wish the color can last a bit longer.
The question is: Can we do something about it and make it more permanent on our hair?
Let Your Hair Breathe
You should give your hair some space to breathe from all hair products you use, at least 2-3 days before it is colored. It is also wise not to wash your hair a day before your appointment, because you will get the hair oils off and the color might cause a damage(dryness) to cuticle.
You should do some home hair treatment using conditioner, to keep the moist in before you dye your hair. Do it at least 2-3 before you hit the hair saloon.
If your hair is too dry using too many hair products, hair coloring can cause more damage than it usually might. This may not give the result you want to achieve with the new hair color you’ve just picked.
After Color Hair Nursing
After you’ve done your coloring, you shouldn’t wash your hair for couple of days. Why? Because you will wash out the dye and all that effort and money spent will be just gone into the “toilet”.
Let the color settle for a few days and after that period, you can continue with your washing routine.
Avoid Daily Washes
It is not bad only for the color, but for your hair and scalp too. Daily washes ruin the quality of the hair strands and you also wash away oils which are so beneficial for your hair.
If you have a dry hair, you can wait longer before you can wash it. But if it is oily, you can use dry shampoo to get you off the routine of a daily wash.
Don’t Rinse With Too Much Hot Water
Instead, make some mild temperature rinse which is pleasant and bearable for your heat senses. If you use too much hot water, you will open the hair cuticle pores and color will be washed away.
Therefore, rinse with mild water and save some hair color on your strands.
Why Shower Filter Is Good For Dyed Hair
If you don’t use it, hard water filled with chlorine, minerals and calcium will mess up with your hair color. Minerals that are added in tap water, will start to discolor your hair and soon you will notice that your color has gone to a strange shade.
To avoid these water adds to damage your permanent hair dye, obtain new shower filter and see the difference in the color appearance.
Find Your Best Shampoo
When you hit to research the market shelves looking for a best shampoo for your hair, try to pick one without any sulfates added in. Why?
Because they will simply wipe out that beautiful expensive hair dye you’ve just put on. Always buy a shampoo which states that is for colored hair.
Have You Considered Colored Shampoo?
You can find on the market many colored shampoos that might have the shade you want. They will not dye your hair, but they will enhance the color you already have.
After Color Treatment
You can always buy after color treatment to maintain your hair and your new color. They will not only nourish your hair, but they will also give you plenty of shine and healthy looking hair.
It will also prevent your color from shading until your next hair saloon appointment.
Use Conditioner – But Not Too Often!
Use it, but not to often and in so much quantity per wash. It might fade your color away. It will soften your hair too much, and pull out all hair dye. Especially if you have a dry hair.
Lower The Use Of Hot Hair Accessories
Good hair pH balance is necessary for your hair if you want to preserve its health. If you have light color(like blond), you mustn’t use hot tools to straighten or curl your hair.
If you use hot iron and other hair tools right after acidic hair treatment, you might turn out with light brown hair prune to breakage.
Use hot tools after a few weeks when your hair can take the heat. Yes,it might sounds silly and you won’t give away your tools, but at least switch to other ways to straighten or curling your hair.
If you still won’t quit the idea, at least protect your hair with treatment before you “burn” it.
Sun And Hair Color
Every women knows that hair color and sun are not best friends. In summer, you should use an extra hair protection using SPF hair products to avoid any hair discoloration.
Not only they will protect your hair, but they will keep your hair hydrated. Products that have coconut oil are best for the occasion.
Switch To Gentle Brushing
Try to use a gentle brush and not the one that has metal. If you’ve had a bleaching treatment, your hair will be more sensitive than usual, therefore – be gentle.
Can You Color Your Hair When Pregnant
Most research indicates the chemicals found in hair dyes are not highly toxic, and are considered safe to use during pregnancy.
Only small amounts of hair dye might be absorbed by the skin, that might be able to reach the fetus. Such small amount is not considered harmful to the fetus.
The same stands while breastfeeding. It is known that small amounts of chemicals might be absorbed into the bloodstream. Therefore, the chance to enter the milk and poising it would be unlikely.
If you are still afraid to color your hair while pregnant, you can switch to natural dyes like henna. Yet, if you are concerned about using hair dyes during pregnancy, you can always seek advice from your doctor.
There are physicians that recommend to wait at least until the second or third trimester, or to wait after whole pregnancy to dye your hair.
