How To Get The Spirit Of Christmas
Many find this season overwhelming and are not into the mood of spirit of Christmas.
Maybe you’ve lost the spirit of Christmas as per over-commercialization of the holiday,or a loss of job, family member etc.
Yes, we understand you don’ really feel like celebrating anything, yet, it is really worth the effort to at least try.
Life goes on and some positive mental attitude should send the vibe to the Universe and make things right all over again.
Now, how to get into that vibe?
Christmas House Decoration
The very first thing you can do to get your spirit of Christmas mood going is to start decorating your house. Go get all your decorations, or buy new ones to bring some fresh energy in.
Try doing it in minimalist way if you don’t want to make your house look like circus.
Remember: Less is always more, and it is better appealing.
If you live near a mountain, you can pick up your own tree (just make sure you don’t bring along the Christmas tree bugs with you), and if not – you can get one from the local market.
If you still keep your Christmas decorations from the period when you were a kid, it will be a good idea to bring back some early childhood memories.
Add a wreath to your front door, so every time you come home that’s the first thing you’ll see. It is always good if you can make your own and give a try to your creativity.
And if you don’t feel like making it – you can always buy one.
Reach Out To Your Friends
Everyday obligations leave almost no time for hearing your friends and family members. It is not an excuse, just life is going so fast today, people don’t have enough time to be even with their children.
Still, you should consider calling your friends and thank them for being in your life path, or you can send them a Christmas card, contact them through social media or find more suitable way.
It is always good to hear from an old friend, don’t you think so?
Christmas TV And Radio Channels
Whichever radio-station you turn on these days, Christmas music is going on, and if that can’t get you into the Christmas spirit – nothing will.
Also, turn on some Christmas TV channels where you can watch many Christmas movies, bringing the subject of what Christmas should be all about (Christmas Carol by Dickens is the best for the occasion).
Believe it or not – these DO have a big effect on our mind and mood.
Every bakery you set your foot in smells like Christmas – cinnamon, vanilla, cloves, orange, lemon…you name it.
Why not bring those smells in your home?
Try baking your own cookies and try out some new Christmas recipes to get your mood going.
If you have kids, involve them in the cookie making process and feel the joy of Christmas.
Family time and bonding.
Shop In Neighborhood Stores
Nothing can kill the holiday spirit quicker than being crushed against the front of a store by bargain-crazed shoppers.
To avoid this craziness, you can always do shopping at the local stores.
Most of the things you can find in malls are mass-produced, cheap junk anyway, and giving junk as gifts shouldn’t happen.
You can buy Christmas presents locally, or this year – you can bake them. They are so neighbor appropriate.
If you decide to be genuine with your Christmas presents, you can always try to find hand-knit sweaters, scarfs, gloves, hats, homemade jewelry, french bread or cheese from a new local store, quality wine or fine Belgium chocolate.
Give small and meaningful gifts to those you love, whether or not you expect anything in return. Make it something symbolic of your relationship and love.
Or, this year you can donate money to those who are in need.
It is all up to you.
Christmas carols are also wonderful and inspiring to listen.
It is really hard to stay outside the spirit of Christmas when the spirit is flowing through you with these celebratory songs of joy.
To make them even more meaningful, you can gather some friends and family members this year, and go Christmas caroling in your neighborhood.
Just stay warm, and have some hot chocolate when you get home!
Go To Church
Attend Christmas church services.
Christmas Eve services are special celebrations that are rich in tradition and history, and will help you be filled with love and joy.
Like the Christmas eve services, you will hear the story of Christmas and share the celebration of this season with your faithful friends, neighbors and family of course.
Make the perfect and the simplest Christmas dinner at the same time.
It may vary of course, based on your tradition, your means and your family. If you’ve always lavished your Christmas dinner with a great deal of attention, preparation and fuss, but you have outgrown it, make it simple!
Make your family’s favorite dinner whether that’s grilled tofu or your famous bacon-cheeseburgers, as long you’ve made what they love.
Or, to spare yourself the fuss, each guest can bring along their favorite meal – and you’re done.
Everybody is happy.
No matter what your faith, belief, desires, traditions or expectations are, the season is about birth, renewal and about celebration.
Look at it through the lens of those things that are most meaningful to you, and strive to make the days of this season reflect your own personal goals and desire.
Remember: the spirit of the season will always reside within you.
