We often think than we keep our household items nice, clean and neat. Still, despite of all our efforts – bacteria DO continue to live and grow there.
Sheets, pillows ,underwear, phones, bathroom holds, kitchen holds, and many other – they are one BIG playground for bacteria. The question is -how often we should clean household items?
They definitely should be washed once a week. For example: you drop your cloths by the sink after every single use, and by such action, you give bacteria a chance to breed very quickly.
A study revealed that most of dishcloths contain E.coli which can sometimes can be deadly to small children and elderly people.
As most used household item, it is usually recommended to change them once per year, but if you see the necessity of changing them earlier- then DO IT!
They are used frequently for many different types of food such as cutting raw meat and fish, vegetables, bread etc. Apparently, wooden boards are the worst places for harboring bacteria – studies have shown that they can host 200% more fecal bacteria than a toilet seat.
Advice: replace your chopping boards at least once a year, especially if they have food stains and cracks in which nasty germs can hide.

Wood seems to be the best material for keeping bacteria thrive! It is more porous than metal or plastic, and there are more cracks and nooks for germs to get in and multiply.
As wooden boards can become health hazardous over time, wooden spoons can become as well .They also carry on E.coli risk and they need to be replaced immediately if you notice they have cracked.
And if you notice that any part of them turned dark or became softer, it could mean that the wood have started rotting.
Who doesn’t want to slip-in after a long day at work into a relaxing comfy pair of slippers? But, have you ever thought for how long your favorite pair of slippers have been used?
According to a study, warm slippers are the perfect place to spread terrifying fungal infection. If you want to avoid any kind of damage to your feet, you should definitely throw away old slippers at least every six months.
In case you’ve decided to wash them, do that properly and as often as possible to reduce the chance of getting any fungal infection.
As soon as a razor have been used a couple of times, it is already been exposed to bacteria – and especially if you keep it in the shower where wet environment thrives them!
Wet shower can cause the blade to rust and will also be exposed to bacteria much more. If you see your razor isn’t performing it’s function as it should- it is time to ditch it.
It is definitely the best place bacteria to grow. Any cloths and sponges used for clean ups in the kitchen, should be thrown away and replaced every week since just well rinsing isn’t enough.
Sponges can contain up to 10 million bacteria per square inch which makes them dirtier than your toilet.
Bed sheets can soak up quite serious collection of sweat, body oils, saliva, sexual fluids, dirt from outside, even urine and fecal matter!
Did you know that fabrics can transfer any fungi? Infrequent cleaning of your sheets and pillowcases can cause serious health problems. The fluids can sleek into the pillows and mattresses which makes them pretty much difficult to be cleaned.
The dead skin cells that we shed, can attract dust mites which feed off of the cells, can affect breathing for people with asthma, and can make you prone to any allergy occurrence.
You should be washing any outfit bought from the stores before you get the first wear. People have tried them on before you did.
Each fabric requires chemicals to make them, but unfortunately some can have awful side effects when they come in contact with your skin.
It is one of many frequently used household items and you think how is it possible to be germ infested. If you want to be more environmentally friendly, you can use an old toothbrush, hot water and vinegar to clean the detergent drawer, inside the rubber seal on the door and in the drum itself.
When your washing machine finish it’s job, leave it open so it can dry out thoroughly. In that way you will avoid thrive of bacteria in it’s wet surroundings.
