During holidays many people forget themselves and eat too much, but the next day they all want to become guilt free from all eaten food.
Of course, having so much food on the table can be quite tempting, and many just dive in and enjoy it 100 %.
How To Become Guilt Free When Eating Too Much
First of all ask yourself why did you do it – had a big meal ?
And second, don’t feel sorry about it because you can eat and become guilt free even after having large amount of food taken.
Don’t Beat Your Self Up
You’ve done it, and it is what it is.
Instead punishing yourself, rewind backwards and tell yourself that from this day on, you’ll start making healthier decisions starting right NOW.
Whats the point of crying over a “spilled milk”?
Leftovers? No, thanks.
Leftovers are the best part if you have a healthy appetite. But, if you don’t want to put yourself in trouble again, it is better to put them out of your sight, so you can resist the temptation.
You know the saying: out of sight – out of mind.
You can put them in containers and store them in your freezer. By doing so, you are moving extra food out of sight, and this action will help you to return successfully to your normal healthy eating routine over the next couple of days.
Make small container portions of leftover foods in single-serving containers.
This is good because:
- it prolongs the food’s shelf life
- help you maintaining portion control
- and slows down the urge to eat up all those tempting dishes left
Nobody wants to do any kind of exercise when feeling full from eating, but choosing light walk is good for better digestion and help decrease the fat your body stores.
A study showed that when subjects took a light walk after a high-fat meal, they decreased their post-meal triglyceride concentration by around 70 % compared to the non-walking group.
To Measure Weight And Be Guilt Free
Are you afraid of stepping on a scale after holidays are gone?
Or, you’ll be brave enough to do it?
If you think that stepping on the scale will help you get back on track faster, by creating a healthier eating mindset – do it.
But don’t assume the scale will show your true weight gain. It may reflect a higher scale number as a result of water retention.
What to do?
Try to ease on food intake the next couple of days. Start the day with smoothing fruits and veggies, or dive into green smoothies only.
It will release retained water and flush you out.
Consider Better Meal Choice
If you take too many calories at one meal, it is recommended to keep the next meal lighter, but make sure to be nutritionally balanced with veggies, carbs and protein.
Keep Records Of Calories Taken
If you would like to keep track of your food intake, you can download a smartphone app,or, a simple paper and pen will do the job until you get back to your eating routine.
A study showed that consistently self-monitoring during holiday season helped the study participants minimize their weight gain.
Do Some Yoga
After having a big meal, your body is under stress.
Yoga can be quite helpful here as by practicing it, you’ll activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which lowers blood pressure, heart rate, and relaxes the stomach nerves.
By doing yoga, neurochemicals like serotonin and the oxytocin hormone are released, so you’ll feel happier, more relaxed, and ready to move on with your healthy goals after this particular overeating session you had.
Yoga practice also helps to reduce Irritable Bowel Syndrome symptoms, such as abdominal pain, fatigue, constipation, and other digestive issues.
Enroll To Gym
You can maximize calorie burn by doing moderate or high intensity exercises. They’ll increase your metabolism for 12 to 24 hours after you’re done working out.
Do 10 reps of each of squats, shoulder presses, lateral side raises, bent over rows, biceps curls, triceps extensions, side bends, push-ups and leg raises.
Then, repeat all of them once or twice if you still have energy for it.
Don’t forget to focus on your food intake by making a weekly plan.
And of course, have more eating self-control so you don’t have to repeat the whole process all over again.
