Many Have These Bad Habits
Occasionally we can all find ourselves here, among these lines, often being totally unaware of all the bad habits we might have.
But, if we learn to observe our behavior, we might prevent some health issues caused by pure negligence.
You may wonder what on earth we are talking about, well, this is the subject of our research- bad health habits.
In following text you will find the most common habits people have regarding this issue, and we are trying to mark some of them just to trigger your awareness for a bit if you have some of these.
So, lets begin.
Are You A Permanent Gum Chewer?
Do you exhaust your jaw by not taking out that chewing gum out of your mouth?
Gum can really give you some fresh breath, or can even help you to alleviate some built tension, but doing so, you will hurt your mouth and you don’t even know it.
You wonder how?
Well, the temporomandibular joint(at the top of the jaw), is a synovial joint just as seen in the knees, and if you use those joints too much, you can develop arthritis, clicking and pain in them.
I have experienced such a thing, and I must say my jaws were like paralyzed…I couldn’t eat or talk. The doctor prescribed me some medicine and he has forbidden me to even talk, so I can release built up tension in my joints.
I literally have overdone chewing gums, causing myself a great deal of pain. It is kind of a bitter experience.
Thanks, no more chewing gums for me.
Are You Crazy? Holding Your Pee?
This is another-not so healthy thing to do among many other bad habits you might have. It is a matter of holding your urine.
It is quite simple: when you gotta go – you gotta go.
Don’t hold it, because holding it for too long is not good for your health – not to say: your bladder.
You should always need to keep your urine flowing and minimize the risk of getting a bladder infection. By holding it, you put yourself at risk for developing bladder infection, kidney problems and even prostate infections, especially if you have already some urological condition, or you are pregnant.
Some studies have shown that if holding it for too long, you can actually stretch out your bladder, causing a condition called infrequent voiders syndrome.
To prevent this, you should not give up on drinking water since it is necessary to flush out toxins. If you are dehydrated, you open a door for bacteria built up in the bladder, causing some inflammation sensations and further problems.
Regular body water flush is required if you want to preserve your urine system healthy and running.
You Are A Nail Biter?
Please say that you are not. It is among the worst bad habits to have.
In case you are a nail biter, do you know how many bacteria you swallow having that “fine” habit you have?
You should be aware that biting your nails can result in nails damage and infection of the skin surrounding it.
In addition, you might also welcome viruses to enter into your body, resulting in upper respiratory and other possible infections, and not to mention that you might even crack a tooth! Expensive habit…
Ask yourself why are you doing this. Is it because you are nervous, or is there any other psychological cause like anxiety, boredom or some kind of frustration?
Think it over!
You Are Not Brushing Teeth? You Skip It??
No, no. Skipping to brush teeth or forgetting to floss them is worse than you think, especially if you make a habit of it.
By skipping this, you are making yourself prone to the biggest risks for dental decay. Do you know that poor dental hygiene is a major risk factor for developing possible cardiovascular disease?
Yes, no kidding!
Bacteria in mouth can move into the bloodstream, creating an inflammation of the blood vessels and it isn’t funny thing to have!
It is highly recommended to brush them twice daily and floss once per day. You can also do regular teeth check ups to avoid this, because by not maintaining this routine, you make a full contribution to cavities and gingivitis occurrence(gum infections and inflammation, which always lead to early tooth loss).
You Don’t Move Much – You Sit All Day!
This is another one from varieties of bad habits.
You are causing so much bad for your health by sitting all day long. This – so called chronic behavior, can lead to many health risks linked with a sedentary lifestyle including weight gain, diabetes and possible high blood pressure.
Most of the harmful effects are caused from sitting for prolonged periods of time. Hours and hours. What to do?
Walk. Use breaks to walk through office, or go on a lunch break in near distance.
If you work from home, even better, you can do whatever you please – just stand up occasionally and walk a little bit.
Let that blood flow through your veins and body.
What else happens if you seat too long and too much? You might get headaches having a bad body posture.
One more reason to stand and walk around.
You Are In Front Of Computer All Day Long
We all are. Bloggers especially. Social “rats” as well. The average worker spends seven hours staring at a computer screen, which can result in computer vision syndrome.
Staring at a computer screen for extended periods of time can result in visual issues, including eye strain and even retinal damage.
Nearsightedness can result from over staring in a computer. Use the 20-20-20 rule: Every 20 minutes take a 20-second break to stare at something 20 feet away.
This reduces the strain on your eyes and also increases blinking, which can soothe dry and irritated eyes.
Also, staring at bright screens such as phones and tablets, can decrease the quality of sleep, so you better avoid them before bed.
Poor Body Posture
Slouching as part of poor body posture, has negative effects on overall health in general. If you are leaning over, your head is very heavier compared to the rest of the body, as it puts a lot of load on the neck, which can lead to tension headaches.
Slouching can also decrease the amount of air you are able to breathe. Some researches have shown that people with poor body posture may be more prone to depression. Imagine that…
Leaning over is also really bad for your back. This can increase the risk of a disc rupturing or herniating, resulting in pain and pinched nerves.
Also. poor posture while seated, can cause some abdominal discomfort and some issues with digestion such as constipation.
This happens because your intestines get compressed inhibiting their ability to push food through the digestive tract.
Wearing Bags On The Same Shoulder
Who knew that carrying a bag can hurt us? Another one from all the bad habits we have? It may seem so.
When you carry heavy bags on one side of your body(shoulder), you disturb the angle of your neck, and it can cause pressure on the nerves that come between the vertebrae in the neck and provide tingling sensation to the arms.
If there is any kind of pressure on the nerves, you can experience numbness, tingling, and even pain in the shoulders and arms.
Your bag should weight no more than 10 percent of your body weight.
The negative effects are even bigger if you have the habit to always carry your bag on the same shoulder.
To avoid this, try to switch shoulders for weight load.
Are You Are Wearing The Wrong Shoes?
Make sure your feet and ankles are properly supported. Avoid high heels for daily jobs unless you work in an office.
If your job requires standing all day long, then high heels are not the best solution for you. Wear flat shoes instead.
For working out, make sure your shoes aren’t too worn. Why?
Because if you are a vivid runner, you will eventually wear down the support within your running shoes, which is a clear sign that you have to buy new ones.
If you are a flip-flops lover, know that they actually changes the way you walk and they might cause a problem from your feet up – to your hips and lower back.
Many people have this bad experience from flip-flops.
Do You Use Enough Sun Protection?
I hope that you are well aware about the importance of sunblock use to protect against harmful sun rays.
When you are out on the sun you should cover with sunscreen totally. Hands and feet too, including the space in between your toes and your nail beds.
The ears are the third most common location to get skin cancer, so make sure you put some sunscreen there as well.
Learn more about sunscreen protection if you want to avoid possible skin problems.
Bad Sleeping Habits
Getting good and consistent sleep is crucial for our body’s overall functioning, but the temptation to stay up late can take its toll.
If you’re a snooze type that hits the alarm multiple times, then you must be aware that you’re cutting down on good, constant sleep, meaning you didn’t get enough sleep. And by doing this – hardly ever you’ll get quality sleep.
Hitting snooze can set you into a new sleep cycle that you won’t have time to finish, leaving you in a state of sleep inertia .
Eventually, you must wake up and go to work, and your “snooze” habit will make you feel nothing but groggy throughout the day.
Once in a while we may apply some of these aforementioned health bad habits, but being aware of them can surely take us to much healthier lifestyle after all.
