Summer and Office Wear
As much as we need to put up with the summer heat and we want to be light dressed, there are certain rules we need to follow, especially when it comes to office wear.
Summer office wear need to be adjusted accordingly, and don’t forget that you can’t go to your office like this:
Wearing Flip Flops
Even if you have your own business, no mater if it is office or store located, you shouldn’t wear these. Flip flops are a summer staple, and they should be worn at the beach and not in your office.
If open-toe sandals are allowed where you work, get a pedicure and make your feet look well maintained. How often you groom, says a lot about you.
Flip flops will never become appropriate summer work wear. Choosing a couple of perfectly cute sandals will do the trick, and you’ll still maintain your professional look.
Always check for summer sales with huge discounts and you can get yourself fully equipped for the next season.
Showing Too Much Skin
Yes, it is so unbearably hot out there, but it doesn’t mean you need to strip down when in office. Sleeveless dresses and blouses could be an option, depending on your company and workplace formality.
In case you decide to go sleeveless, any straps that are smaller than the width of three fingers should be left for the weekends, and not for the office.
Choose Light Fabrics
Always choose light and breathable fabrics, and make sure they’re made from high quality material (like cotton and linen blends).
Avoid 100% synthetic shirts, blouses or other clothing, as they don’t let the skin to breathe, and soon enough (even you have showered), you will find yourself in heavy underarm smell like you have never seen a water and soap in your life.
Go for natural fabrics – ALWAYS!
They can be expensive sometimes, but you better pay a few bucks more, than smell all day long.
Semi Casual – But Not Sloppy
If your workplace ethics allows a little bit more casual wear, you can apply it looking neat but not sloppy.
Many, apply casual Friday wear, but in case you choose denim, at least choose a white one, combined with a simple and elegant shirt or blouse (office appropriate), combined with some minimalist accessories (earrings, necklace, scarf).
Less is always more.
Office Picnic (as semi team building)
Oftentimes, companies organize office picnics as a part of team building. But, even it’s in a casual manner, you still need to be dressed accordingly.
Don’t forget your colleagues will be there, and you still need to avoid your beach wear look.
A simple sun dress for women, or reasonable sized shorts with a polo shirt for men, will show that you still care for your appearance and your image.
The problem with summer is that it’s hot outside and freezing inside your office, where A/C are working full time.
It is always good to have an extra piece such as cardigan or blazer, which can be great addition to your office outfit look.
It is good to make sure your outfit works with or without the layering piece. You can always start with the full look and “peel off” when needed.
A pair of shorts definitely falls off the category for work office clothes. Steer away from them and always try to keep your office look more professional.
Even if your office don’t have an official dress code, wearing shorts might not be the best idea.
Monitor Your Co-workers
If you are a newcomer and highly confused in which direction you should go, observe what your boss and colleagues are wearing.
In case you are still confused, ask if there is any specific dress code you need to follow, so you’ll avoid office gossip about your outfit.
Always stay on the “safe”side.
Control Your Bra Straps Whereabouts
When you are choosing summer office wear, always strive for the one that will not allow your bra stripes to peek. For sure they need to be covered.
Dressing for the office in warmer weather can be confusing sometimes, but you can always avoid such “unfortunate” peeking outs by using strapless bra.
It is simply a must have for many occasions, not only for summer dressing.
Having A Meeting With A Client
We think we don’t need much to say here.
Always strive for a top professional look, as your appearance is the first thing a client will notice. If you look sloppy they will not take you for serious, and maybe a good opportunity will be missed out for contracting a good deal.
Therefore, in such cases keep it always professional.
Dive Into Sales
It is always worth checking the end sales and investing in a good summer work wardrobe. You can always find plenty of timeless pieces you can use for a longer time.
And when you decide to splurge – do it wisely and choose neutral colors as they are evergreens for office appearance and its fashion lasts forever.
Combined with some trendy color accessories – you will hit BINGO and be modern and sophisticated as you should always be!
