End Of Summer
The end of summer is slowly approaching and we are pulling ourselves together from all the fun we had.
We are constantly packing and un-packing, and in meantime, while doing so, it would be a good idea to select which items are not usable anymore and get rid of them as soon as possible.
This on-to-go declutter is good, so you won’t have any un-necessary items kept in your garage, waiting for the next summer to arrive.
To which items we are referring?
All Sorts Of Kitchen Makers
In summer, we all use all kinds of makers: coffee maker, ice cream maker, drink maker and many other makers.
The question is: do you really need or use all these makers?
If you are a huge fan of summer kitchen gadgets – its perfectly fine, but we bet you’ve noticed how much space they take.
You struggle to find an extra one so you can function somehow.
Go through your summer kitchen gadgets and check all your plastic salad bowls for cracks if any, or plastic platters melted while barbecuing, or all drink dispensers that leak everywhere.
If you see anything that isn’t right – toss them away.
Check through all your sandals, flip-flops (for broken toe pegs ), and any other summer footwear you have. If they’re worn out, or missing a strap, or something else is missing, toss them as well.
Don’t wait for the next summer to arrive to do this. Make some space for the new season pairs in your closet and make shopping become fun again.
Summer Makeup Items
Girls like to glitter in summer and usually have too many nail polishes, lip glosses, skin bronzers, and every other possible cosmetic product there is.
Check through your bathroom cabinet for expired summer cosmetic items. If you have bought all thinkable fluorescent nail polishes there are, surely you won’t use them until next season.
Don’t keep them too long as they will dry out eventually. Toss them because they will lose their quality anyway.
If you have all kinds of soothing after-sun sprays and after-bite creams, do know they also expire, so check the bottles for expiry dates.
Also, keeping too many hair accessories that are missing pearls, butterflies or whatever, can also become clutter in time.
Therefore, toss everything that is broken or is missing something.
Even if you have dozens of pool and beach towels, you may find yourself buying few more.
It’s never enough but, at the end of the summer when you are putting everything in its place, you may not be able to close your closet door.
You’ve just realized you have tons of towels (pool ones, beach ones…)
It’s good idea if you go through them, starting from the bottom for the oldest ones that haven’t been used for a while, and are not in their best condition (too many bleach stains, frayed edges, washed out colors, ripped).
Remember, you can always donate any surplus which is still in good condition, and the decision to donate to pet shelters will be blessing for the animals.
Of course you want to be trendy, and each sandal and flip flop should match your beach bag, but is it necessary? Don’t you have too many already?
Not all beach bags are keepers. Toss the teared apart ones.
And not to mention dozens of pairs of sunglasses following the trends, and weren’t the most comfortable ones (most of them were squeezing your nose or ears).
Will you wear them ever again?
Bathing suits become worn out in time, and you shouldn’t keep them as they don’t last forever anyway.
Some, you have outgrown and you stopped looking fabulous in them, or they’ve become too uncomfortable to wear. Also check all your cover ups and sarongs, as they might be missing something as well (a couple of torn apart threads).
If you see anything that isn’t quite satisfactory, toss it.
You’ll buy new ones next year anyway.
Beach Toys And Outdoor Games
If you have kids, you surely have dozens of beach toys. Many were never used in first place, and they just hang around in your garage for years.
Everything that is cracked or broken need to be tossed away. Of course that a ripped badminton net will be of no use, so why waiting?
We all buy them like crazy, so we can have a memory from our vacation. Fridge magnets are so heavy, they keep falling off the front of your refrigerator and you have trouble getting them underneath where they have went.
Also, too many collected seashells and beach rocks can be fun at the beginning, but if you decide to keep them and make summer arrangements its OK, until you come to the point when you will be sick of dusting them.
Minimize the items.
Any furniture that hasn’t weathered over the years is a keeper. Everything else, must go. You don’t need unusable and broken patio furniture, or broken umbrellas anyway.
Also consider tossing fabric cushions and pillows that have mildewed, become musty and moldy and won’t come clean at all. You can always buy new ones at good price.
In case you have a cooler in your garage that no longer keeps food and beverage cold and at safe temperature – is totally useless. Try to repair it if possible, but if it isn’t gonna work ever – don’t keep it!
Check your grill too.
If any grill item you use such as grill brush, or baster brush are out of function (broken or melted) – throw them away.
As you can see, it is good if you check your garage items from time to time, and select what is usable and what isn’t.
By garbage-ing out everything you can’t use, you create more space for new things you can buy, and enjoy the next summer season.
